Vanderbilt Faculty Recital: Summits

I’ll be performing my 2023-24 faculty recital at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music on Sunday, March 3 at 3pm in Turner Recital Hall.

I’ll be performing

  • Jim David’s Three Summits Concerto with David Rodgers

  • Joe Buono’s Elegy

  • my first live performance in Nashville of Kevin Day’s Aurora with the Vanderbilt Trombone Ensemble

  • Collaborations with my Senior students

Blair Brass Quintet: Fall 2023 Recital

The Blair Brass Quintet will perform their Fall recital in Turner Hall at the Blair School of Music. Program will include works by Viktor Ewald, Paquito D’Rivera, Enrique Crespo, and more! This will be the first Vanderbilt performance for our new professor of tuba and euphonium, Dr. Bethany Wiese.

I’m thrilled to be performing the world premiere of Ryan Middagh’s new concerto for trumpet, trombone, and wind symphony “Tomorrow Will Be Our Last Sunny Day” alongside my Vanderbilt colleague Jose Sibaja and the Vanderbilt Wind Symphony. “Awakening” Concerto for Two Trombones with Ian Bousfield and Cairo Symphony

I’ll be performing the world premiere of Ricardo Molla’s newest concerto for two trombones and orchestra, “Awakening”, alongside my friend and former Vienna Philharmonic colleague, Ian Bousfield. We’ll be performing with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Ahmed El Saedi.

Faculty Recital at Vanderbilt

This recital was originally scheduled to take place in February 2022, but was postponed due to a family emergency.

Under the theme of “Trombone is Fun”, I will perform a varied program of (mostly) uplifting, inspiring, and fun selections. Program will also feature Blair’s professor of percussion, Ji Hye Jung, long-time collaborator David Rodgers, and current students Jonathan Salcedo, Riley Borklund, Austin Root, and Liam Barron. Works by Kevin Day, Barbara York, Alexander Bonus, Jonathan Salcedo, Thom Ritter George, and Ruben Dario Gomez.

The concert is free and open to the public, and will be held in Turner Recital Hall at the Blair School of Music in Nashville TN. The event will also be live-streamed from the Blair website (https://blair.vanderbilt.edu/live-streams.php)

"Colors" with the UT Wind Ensemble

I’m honored to have been asked to perform Appermont’s Colors with the University of Tennessee Wind Ensemble, the top concert band at my alma mater. This concert will be the final concert for Director of Bands, Dr. Don Ryder, who was one of my primary influences in my undergraduate studies. Dr. Ryder is retiring, and this concert will be a celebration of his massive legacy and impact at UTK.

Solo recital will be in the Recital Hall at 7:30p on March 23rd, with Dr. Ilonka Rus, piano.

I’m thrilled to be a part of this wonderful event, hosted by long-time friend and fellow Tennessean Dr. Ben McIlwain, and in collaboration with Karen Cubides Agency. I’ll be giving a masterclass on BODY MIND SPIRIT, soloing with the USM Trombone Choir, and performing Ricardo Molla’s Concerto for Two Trombones with Dr. McIlwain and the USM Orchestra. I’m honored to be doing two main events at this year’s International Trombone Festival in Columbus, GA!

On the first day of the festival I’ll be performing a concert of predominantly new works, including 3 world premieres.

Works will include:
